Sunbright Hospice works to provide trusted end of life care to patients and families across the Bay Area and surrounding areas in Northern, California. Hospice includes a variety of services to help achieve an improved quality of life. At every stage of care, we are dedicated to keeping you educated about our services so that you can make informed decisions.
Paying for Hospice Care
Hospice care may be paid for in a variety of ways. We accept multiple payer sources:- Medicare
- Medi-Cal
- Some private insurance plans
Advanced Directives
Advanced directives convey an individual’s right to accept or refuse medical care. They can protect this right if you ever become mentally or physically unable to communicate your wishes due to an injury or illness, such as brain damage, permanent coma, and/or terminal illness.
Advanced directives can help:
- You protect your right to make medical choices that can affect your life
- Your family avoid the responsibility and stress of making difficult decisions
- Your physician by providing guidelines for your care
Types of Advanced Directives
Living Wills
Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care
These are written instructions that explain your wishes regarding health care if you are terminally ill or in a permanent coma, and are unable to communicate. They’re called living wills, because they take effect while a patient is still alive.
In a written document, you can name a person (called a proxy or agent) to make decisions for you regarding health care if you become unable to do so.

Privacy
Your personal and medical information is confidential. Medical records and communications with your physicians must be kept private.
Informed Consent
Your physician must clearly explain the advantages and risks of any procedures, tests, or treatments. You must give your permission for such care and have the right to refuse any treatment.
Information About Your Condition
You must be kept up to date about your medical condition, treatments, and chances for recovery.
Information About Advanced Directives
In most cases, advance directives and your rights as a patient must be explained to you.
